Crispy, crunchy, guilt-free goodness! 🧅 Gluten-free onion rings are calling your name. 😋
1. What to Know First:
Crispy, golden, and utterly irresistible, these Gluten-Free Onion Rings prove that dietary restrictions don't mean sacrificing flavor. Enjoy the classic comfort food, now accessible to everyone!

2. What You’ll Need:
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup Bette Hagman's pizza/french bread flour mix (see note; I'm sure any other gluten free "all purpose" blend would work)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced & separated into rings
- 1/2 cup gluten free all purpose flour (for coating onions)
- Oil for frying (we use canola)
3. Let’s Get Cooking:
Begin by slicing the onions into rings and preparing the gluten-free batter. Dip each ring into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated, then deep fry until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels before serving.
Step 1: Combine wet ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the egg, oil, and milk. Use an electric mixer on low speed to blend the ingredients together. Mix for about 1 minute, until they are well combined.

Step 2: Add the dry mix
Add the 'Bette's' dry mix to the bowl with the wet ingredients. Ensure all ingredients are added evenly. This will form the base of the batter.

Step 3: Create a smooth batter
Mix all the ingredients together until a smooth batter forms. Ensure there are no lumps. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the onion rings evenly.

Step 4: Flour the onion rings
Place 1/2 cup of gluten-free all-purpose flour in a shallow dish. Take each onion ring and coat it thoroughly in the flour, ensuring it is completely covered. This helps the batter adhere better.

Step 5: Dip in batter
Dip each floured onion ring into the prepared batter. Ensure that the onion ring is fully submerged and coated evenly with the batter. Let any excess batter drip off before frying.

Step 6: Fry until golden brown
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 190°C (375°F), ensuring it is at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep. Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil and fry until they reach a desired golden brown color. Remove them and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
